Rita Mae Brown once said, “Language is the road map of a culture, it tells you where its people come from and where they are going”. When we learn a foreign language, we gain a number of benefits; first, not only do we become aware of the culture of that single language, but we also learn about many other cultures as well. Secondly, learning another language is also helpful for traveling. It can lead to many advantages in the future, such as getting into a good college and having more career options. These are some of the main reasons for why I chose to learn Korean at Eleanor Roosevelt High School.
As I am currently going through my studying experience in the Korean language class, I think about how learning this language will influence my future career. Once I am fluent in both the Korean language and culture, I will consider having a profession in teaching, or arts in South Korea.
Knowing the language would be absolutely indispensable when I get to Korea. I would not have to worry about asking English speakers for help getting around or learning basic words or phrases to use with employers. Becoming proficient in Korean and also aware of Korean culture would definitely make my career(s) much easier for me.
It is highly crucial to understand different races and cultures of the world because it would hugely contribute to our own personal growth. Opening up to new cultures allows us to become more flexible and appreciative of other ways of doing and seeing things. As a result, we have the advantage of seeing the world from different perspective points of view. In today’s reciprocity, this is a valuable tool. Through learning about someone’s race or cultural background, you may have a better understanding of how they live their life. It can open your heart and mind, allow you to express empathy, and reciprocate your own life and culture as well.
Being open to experiencing and learning new cultures enhances our lifestyles. Other cultures make for a more vibrant dining experience, and also allows us to broaden our views on every aspect of culture, from food to clothing, to religion, and even politics. To blend in more when traveling, and when encountering others in a specific country, it makes sense to learn about other cultures so that you avoid any social mistakes. This would result in having a richer experience no matter where you go.
When you are aware of multiple cultures, you become accepting of people’s differences, you broaden your mind more, you gain an understanding of what people in other countries do and you expand your mind for more than just your own culture, and of course, you learn new things and you become more of a unique individual.
